Centennial Money Magic

On the surface, this video was mean to celebrate the first 100 years of New York's prestigious Barnard College. But its real objective was to fatten the endowment for Barnard's next
100. Once shown at the spashy celebration event, it would be distributed around the country to soften up the "ancients" at countless alumnae fund-raising parties.

FEMALE NARRATOR (CELEBRITY ALUM LEE REMICK):
The power of impulse——

How many times in the years since graduation had I thought about visiting Barnard?

But today, for no other reason than sheer impulse, I stepped off the bus and let my memory direct me back.

Surprises along the way--no more Chock Full o' Nuts.

The "Jungle" is gone...

as are the tennis courts.

Poor old "Jake" has been passed by.

But, as I discovered, the more things change, the more Barnard remains immutably, unmistakeably Barnard.

After all these years, there is a "feel" to the place that is constant, no matter what your era.

It's the feel of an oasis in the heart of the great city. The feel of hundreds and hundreds of rugged individuals, each going her own way.

The upstart sister, the feisty independent one, proud of her achievements, defying any force, natural or otherwise, to hold her back.

I could tell that hadn't changed...and I was glad.
